Knowledge Organisers:
At the Isle of Ely Primary School, we use knowledge organisers as a tool to help our children learn more and remember more and to allow parents and carers to support their children's learning. In our knowledge organisers, you will find essential knowledge, key dates, important vocabulary and key figures. The knowledge organisers can also be used as a fun assessment tool which will help children to see the progress they have made.
Our class text is: Varjak Paw by SF Said
What have we been up to?
Weekly News Flash – W/C 11th September 2022
What a fabulous second week we have had in Year 5. This week, the children have consolidated their learning on place value, partitioning numbers up to 1,000,000. In English, we have started to learn our model text Alien Alert and have been practising our toolkit features of personification, similes and metaphors. We have also kick started our topics of China: Dynasties and Conquerors in history, Spatial Sense in geography and The Human Body in science. The children have been getting used to how routines work in Year 5 and have had a wonderfully positive start!
Weekly News Flash – W/C 4th September 2022
Welcome to Year 5! All of the children have spoken about their relaxing and enjoyable summer break. This week, we have started our first poetry unit on personification by looking at the poem The Wind by James Stephens. We have story mapped this text and are using actions to help us retell this. We have also begun to explore larger numbers and place value in maths. The children enjoyed their art lessons, exploring harmonious colours and the colour wheel, putting their skills to use with mixing. They have really enjoyed hearing the beginning of our class story, Varjak Paw.
