Knowledge Organisers
At the Isle of Ely Primary School, we use knowledge organisers as a tool to help our children learn more and remember more and to allow parents and carers to support their children's learning. In our knowledge organisers, you will find essential knowledge, key dates, important vocabulary and key figures. The knowledge organisers can also be used as a fun assessment tool which will help children to see the progress they have made.

What have we been up to?
W/C 30th September
My goodness, these weeks are whizzing away from us! This week in Year 5, we have started to write our shared innovation story - a sequel to the model text that we learned last week. The children had great fun, coming up with a range of storylines that we could base our class writes around. It has been wonderful to see the children really pushing themselves, choosing ambitious vocabulary and sentences to make the stories their own. In History, we found out about Genghis Kahn and his grandson, and how they eventually conquered China, while in Geography, we looked at map scales and how to work out distances. We have also started our new addition and subtraction unit in Maths this week, recapping exchanging and applying our skills to reasoning and problem solving questions. You will find our spelling focus in the image below... prefixes! We've packed a great deal in this week! Well done everybody!
W/C 23rd September
This week, the children have been working on a variety of tools to add to their Portal Stories Writer's Toolkit. They have looked at personification, similes, metaphors, adverbials and cohesive devices. In Maths, we have finished our unit on place value, ending with an end of unit check and a reasoning and problem-solving lesson. We will be ready for our next unit to begin on Monday! History this week, saw the children learning about the Tang and Song Dynasties, while in Geography, they looked at Western and Eastern hemispheres. We look forward to another busy week next week, where we can start planning stories and dive deeper into our topics!
